Through our volunteer efforts, nonprofit thrift store, and grants program, we continue to make a positive difference in our neighborhoods. While we’ve historically focused on organizations serving women and children, our reach extends far beyond.

New members are accepted on a rolling basis and our application period is now OPEN-you are invited to:
- Meet with JLWOS committee members to learn about our League (this can be virtual or in person)
- Attend one of our General Membership Meetings (GMM)/volunteer training meetings, this will give you a feel for who we are
- Volunteer for at least one event related to our thrift store the Golden Shoestring (GSS) or Community, this will give you a feel for what we do
- Choose which committee aligns with your interests and skill set (Membership, Golden Shoestring, Community)
- What do the expectations of being a member entail?
We know we are all busy! Members can be as involved as their schedules allow, whether it’s joining Zoom calls, volunteering or organizing events.
We just ask that:
- Members agree to serve on a committee each year. Membership meetings are scheduled in advanced and typically held once a month over zoom or in person.
- Members attend at least two events/meetings in the league year (our year is Sept-June)
- Members pay an annual due that allow the league to operate and continue to provide grants and scholarships in our community
- Can I work full time and still have time for membership?
Yes! We recognize that project opportunities must be varied and flexible in order to accommodate the diverse needs of our members.
- Must I know a current member in order to join?
Not at all! Many join us to connect with others in the Sound Shore community and network, or to participate in our volunteer projects, The Golden Shoestring, and community grants program.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must be twenty-one years of age or older to be eligible for membership.
- Applicants must live or work in the communities we serve:
- New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye Brook, Harrison, Port Chester and Rye.
